Transformer encoder–decoder architectures largely replaced earlier recurrent designs. Training typically uses paired examples and token-level loss, while inference relies on greedy, beam, or sampling-based decoding. Quality depends on alignment, context limits, data coverage, and evaluation beyond surface overlap.
