Warner Music Group has announced an agreement to acquire Sureel AI, a technology platform built to track and document how AI models reference and incorporate music assets. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sureel’s multi-patented technology generates what the company calls an “AI DNA” profile for each work, breaking content into component parts and mapping how AI models incorporate those elements during training and generation. The platform delivers IP provenance tracking, audit and compliance reporting, model optimization, and business intelligence tools.

The acquisition also brings WMG an expanded name, image, and likeness suite. Sureel’s NIL attribution tools monitor how artist voices, likenesses, and performance identities are used across AI systems, covering voice cloning, AI-generated avatars, and style replication. The Sureel registry currently holds millions of music assets, with architecture designed to extend multi-layer attribution into video and image content.

Sureel will continue to operate as a standalone platform serving the broader music and AI ecosystem following the close of the deal.

WMG CEO Robert Kyncl framed the acquisition as part of a broader effort to ensure artists, songwriters, and rightsholders benefit when their work is used in AI-generated content or model training. Sureel founder and CEO Dr. Tamay Aykut said WMG’s backing would allow the company to deliver its attribution capabilities at greater scale.

The deal reflects growing pressure on AI developers and content platforms to provide clearer documentation of training data sources and attribution pathways, as the music industry continues to push for enforceable frameworks governing AI’s use of copyrighted material.
