Elon Musk urged people to replace the term artificial intelligence with “SI” in an October 4 post on X. “No more AI. SI. It’s better,” he wrote, echoing President Donald Trump’s push to call the technology superintelligence.
Trump’s September 29 executive order directs federal executive departments and agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official correspondence, websites, reports and other non-statutory documents, to the extent permitted by law. The directive applies within the executive branch.
Musk also agreed to a proposed SpaceXSI name when asked about the possibility on X. He separately described SpaceX as a superintelligence company. His reply indicated an intention to make the naming change but provided no implementation date.
Musk had already backed Trump’s terminology at the September 29 White House meeting. As AIstify previously reported, he emphasized the technology’s positive benefits and corrected himself from “AI” to “SI” while speaking alongside the president.
The federal order initially keeps the existing statutory definition of artificial intelligence and leaves previously issued regulations, contracts, grants and historical documents unchanged. Trump also gave his science and technology adviser 60 days to propose a federal definition of superintelligence.
