Spotify has launched Taste Profile for Premium subscribers in the United States, giving listeners direct visibility into how the platform’s AI models interpret their listening habits and the ability to adjust recommendations through natural language prompts.
The feature covers music, podcasts, and audiobooks, and feeds into Spotify’s core recommendation surfaces including Discover Weekly, Made for You playlists, and the annual Spotify Wrapped review. Users can request more variety, shift toward a specific genre or era, adjust the energy level of suggested tracks, or refine podcast and audiobook recommendations. Changes to the Home feed typically take effect within a few hours of submitting an adjustment.
To access Taste Profile, users tap their profile picture in the mobile app, scroll to Taste Profile, and enter a natural language description of what they want to change under the “Tell us more” section.
Taste Profile was first unveiled at the SXSW conference in Austin in March by Spotify co-CEO Gustav Soderström and initially launched in beta in New Zealand. The U.S. rollout marks its arrival in Spotify’s largest market by traffic and revenue. The feature is available to users aged 18 and over and remains in beta, with no timeline announced for a broader global rollout.
The launch addresses a long-standing limitation of Spotify’s recommendation engine, which has historically surfaced content based on passive listening history without allowing users to distinguish between intentional listening and incidental playback.
Common friction points have included sleep sounds, children’s music played on shared accounts, and music streamed in contexts that do not reflect personal taste. Spotify added a toggle earlier this month allowing parents to exclude children’s music from Wrapped and recommendations, and Taste Profile extends that level of control across the full recommendation system.
