OpenAI has signed a partnership with Amazon Web Services to provide its artificial intelligence models to U.S. government agencies, according to reports from the Information. The agreement covers both classified and unclassified workloads, expanding OpenAI’s presence in the public sector.
The move follows OpenAI’s recent agreement with the Pentagon to deploy its models within classified military networks. It also comes amid a broader dispute between Anthropic and the U.S. Department of Defense, which designated Anthropic a supply-chain risk after the company refused to support certain military use cases.
AWS is already a key infrastructure provider for government agencies and has deep ties to Anthropic, whose Claude models are integrated into AWS Bedrock and GovCloud environments. By leveraging AWS distribution channels, OpenAI can reach a wider base of federal customers and accelerate adoption of its AI tools across agencies.
The partnership is expected to strengthen OpenAI’s position in enterprise and government markets, where cloud-based AI services are increasingly viewed as critical infrastructure for defense, intelligence, and administrative operations.
