Google Maps is introducing new Gemini-powered AI features designed to make building and customizing map-based projects faster and more intuitive. The rollout includes a builder agent, styling agent, and MCP server, all aimed at helping developers create interactive prototypes and connect their AI models directly with Google Maps data.
The builder agent allows users to describe the project they want—such as a Street View tour, live weather map, or hotel finder—and automatically generates the code. A styling agent lets developers apply branded color schemes or visual themes to maps, while the MCP server links AI assistants to Maps’ technical documentation for real-time development support.
Google also unveiled Grounding Lite and Contextual View, tools that allow AI assistants to answer spatial queries like “How far is the nearest grocery store?” and display the response in list, map, or 3D formats.
These updates expand Google’s broader integration of Gemini models into Maps, following recent features like conversational search, AI-powered lane guidance and other AI-assisted driving tools.
