Expedia Group announced a broad expansion of its AI-powered travel infrastructure, introducing new tools designed to help partners build, distribute, and manage travel experiences through automation and AI agents.

The updates were unveiled during the company’s Explore 26 partner conference in Las Vegas and include a new Intelligent Experience Platform, AI-powered merchandising tools, expanded media network capabilities, and a forthcoming Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for AI integrations.

Expedia said the MCP server will allow AI agents to connect directly with Expedia’s travel inventory and systems through standardized interfaces rather than custom-built integrations. The approach is designed to simplify how third-party platforms, apps, and AI assistants access travel booking services.

The company is increasingly positioning AI as the next major interface for travel discovery and booking. Expedia’s strategy spans trip planning, customer support, itinerary creation, and partner integrations rather than relying on a single chatbot product.

Expedia is also working with Meta on in-feed travel planning experiences tied to social platforms, allowing users to begin trip discovery and planning directly inside advertisements and social content.

Additional AI features under development include natural-language activity planning, AI-powered property comparisons, automated question answering, and package pricing insights designed to streamline trip research and booking decisions.

Beyond AI, Expedia continues expanding its broader travel infrastructure through acquisitions and API growth. The company recently moved to acquire CarTrawler while also expanding beyond lodging into flights, rental cars, activities, and travel protection services.
