More than 25 companies have formed the Agentic Payments Alliance, a working coalition focused on developing shared infrastructure standards for AI-driven commerce. Founding members include Visa, Mastercard, Fiserv, Circle, Solana, Remitly, Uniswap Labs, Avalanche, Chainalysis, and Fireblocks, among others. The initiative was convened by Rain, an enterprise stablecoin payments infrastructure provider.
The alliance will focus on establishing common frameworks for AI agent identity and authorization, transaction security, fraud detection, and regulatory compliance. Early work is expected to include shared research, testing of emerging agent authorization standards, and engagement on the policy questions raised by autonomous commerce. The coalition will be governed collectively by its founding members rather than controlled by any single company.
The formation comes as the infrastructure underlying agentic commerce remains largely undefined. Key questions around how AI agents are credentialed, how transactions are bounded, and how fraud is detected across autonomous payment flows have yet to be resolved at an industry level. McKinsey projects global agentic commerce could reach between $3 trillion and $5 trillion by 2030.
Rain developed the Agent Control Layer and Scoped Cards ahead of the launch, providing AI agents with payment credentials that carry defined spending limits and access controls. Founding members of the alliance will also receive early access to Rain’s Agentic Startup Program, an accelerator for early-stage companies building agentic commerce applications. The program’s first cohort of five startups will present at a demo day open to alliance members.
Mastercard executive vice president Sherri Haymond said the primary risk in the current moment is that innovation outpaces alignment across the industry. Rain co-founder and CEO Farooq Malik framed the alliance as a way to bring payment rail builders, regulators, and developers into a shared conversation before standards are set in isolation.
