Opera today introduced Neon, an AI-powered browser that can run tasks and navigate pages autonomously — aiming to shift web browsing from passive to “agentic.”

Their explicit structure can make decisions auditable and enforce constraints with precision, particularly in domains with stable rules. However, manually encoding real-world knowledge is labor-intensive, brittle, and difficult when inputs are noisy or ambiguous. Modern systems often combine symbolic reasoning with machine learning, retrieval, or probabilistic methods. Symbolic AI remains important because many tasks require compositional reasoning and verifiable rules, even when neural models handle perception or natural-language input.
