Hybrid AI combines complementary methods in one system instead of expecting a single model to handle every requirement. A common design pairs neural networks, which are effective at recognizing patterns in unstructured data, with symbolic rules or knowledge representations that support explicit reasoning and constraints. Other combinations may connect probabilistic models, search, optimization, retrieval, simulators, and human review. Hybrid architectures can improve interpretability, data efficiency, reliability, or compliance when the components are carefully integrated. They can also introduce complexity: each boundary needs consistent data, error handling, evaluation, and ownership. The term describes a broad engineering strategy rather than one standardized architecture.
