Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork, its dedicated workspace for larger, multi-step tasks, back into the main Claude chat experience. The company said the change removes the need for users to decide upfront whether a task belongs in a quick chat or a separate work session, since Claude can now take on bigger jobs from any conversation.
In a blog post announcing the update, Anthropic said the rollout begins on Pro and Max plans over the coming weeks, with Team and Free plans to follow. Enterprise administrators will be notified at least 30 days before anything changes for their organizations.
What Changes for Users
Anthropic built Cowork as a separate space for handling bigger workloads, and Claude Design as a dedicated environment for visual work. According to the company, user feedback consistently pointed to the same friction: people found it frustrating to decide where a task belonged, and work started in one space did not carry over into the other. The merger is meant to remove that decision entirely, so that the capabilities built for Cowork and Design are available inside ordinary conversations, along with whatever context, skills and connectors a user already has set up.
Alongside the merger, Anthropic introduced Claude Docs and Claude Slides, two new document and presentation formats that launch in beta on paid plans, joining Claude Design, which now also works directly inside conversations rather than as a standalone product. Users can ask Claude for a document and edit it collaboratively, or ask for a slide deck and download the result as PowerPoint or PDF. Enterprise admins retain control over when these features are turned on for their organizations.
Handling Longer, Unattended Tasks
Anthropic’s example scenario in the announcement describes asking Claude to compile a weekly status report, flag anything that slipped, and turn the highlights into a five-slide summary for a leadership meeting. Users can check progress on the task from a phone before arriving at a desk, and can schedule recurring versions of the same request, such as having Claude start the report automatically every Monday without being asked again.
Anthropic said users can choose how closely Claude checks in while working. By default, Claude asks for confirmation before taking an action; users can instead let it continue working and only flag items that need closer review. The company said users retain final approval over anything Claude produces or sends.
Part of a Broader Push Into Workplace Tools
The change follows a series of moves by Anthropic to position Claude as a more autonomous collaborator on everyday work, rather than a chat window used for isolated questions. Anthropic said existing Cowork users will find their chats, projects, artifacts, connectors and skills preserved once the products merge, and that anyone who mostly uses standard chat does not need to change how they work.
