Google launched a new AI Plus subscription in India, priced at $2.21 per month for the first six months and $4.44 thereafter, aiming to compete with other low-cost AI offerings such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go. The plan provides higher usage limits for Gemini 3 Pro and the image editing model Nano Banana Pro, access to video generation in Gemini and Flow apps, expanded NotebookLM research capabilities, and 200GB of cloud storage across Photos, Drive, and Gmail. Subscribers can also share access with family members.
Previously, Google’s most affordable AI plan in India was AI Pro at $21.69 per month. The AI Plus plan was first introduced in Indonesia in September and has now been localized for the Indian market, months after ChatGPT Go’s debut in the country.
AI companies are increasingly targeting India with low-cost or free offerings to tap its large user base. Perplexity partnered with Airtel to offer its Pro plan for free for a year, while OpenAI extended free access to ChatGPT Go. Google also teamed up with Reliance Jio to provide AI Pro at no cost for 18 months to users on specific carrier plans, reflecting growing competition in the region.
In addition, Google and Accel recently launched a $2 million joint investment program for early-stage Indian AI startups, providing capital, compute credits, and technical mentorship to support the country’s growing AI ecosystem.
