Google is rolling out a new feature that allows users to ask follow-up questions directly from AI Overviews, the summaries displayed at the top of Search results. The update integrates with AI Mode, Google’s conversational Search tool, enabling a seamless back-and-forth for complex queries.

The company also made Gemini 3 the default model for AI Overviews globally, which Google says provides “a best-in-class AI response” directly on the search results page. Robby Stein, VP of Product for Google Search, said the updates aim to transform Search from a static results experience into an interactive, AI-driven workflow.

The feature is designed to preserve context from the initial Overview while allowing users to explore topics more deeply. The rollout coincides with Google’s recent introduction of “Personal Intelligence” to AI Mode, connecting Gmail, Google Photos, and other services to provide individualized responses. AI Overviews have also been added to Gmail, offering natural language search to quickly surface relevant emails.
