Google has expanded its Gemini Personal Intelligence feature to India, extending a capability that connects user data across apps to deliver more personalized AI responses. Initially launched in the U.S., the feature integrates services such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search, allowing Gemini to answer queries using context from a user’s digital activity.
The system is designed to combine reasoning and retrieval across multiple data sources. For example, users planning a trip can ask Gemini for travel details, and the assistant can pull booking confirmations from Gmail, reference saved images in Photos, and suggest locations based on YouTube history. Google says the feature is opt-in, with users controlling which apps are connected and how data is used.
Privacy and transparency are central to the rollout. Google emphasized that personal data from connected apps is not directly used to train AI models. Instead, Gemini accesses information only to fulfill user requests, while training relies on anonymized prompts and responses. The system also includes safeguards for sensitive topics and allows users to disable personalization or review how answers are generated.
The rollout will initially reach paid Gemini subscribers, with broader availability planned in the coming weeks. The launch reflects increasing competition among AI providers to deliver more context-aware assistants, as companies shift from general-purpose chatbots toward deeply personalized, cross-platform AI experiences.
