Figma has introduced a new AI-powered design agent that operates directly within its collaborative canvas, expanding the company’s push into AI-assisted product creation and workflow automation.
The new feature allows users to generate designs, edit interfaces, automate repetitive tasks, and create multiple design variations using natural language prompts. Figma said users can also run several AI agents simultaneously to handle different creative tasks in parallel.
According to the company, the AI system is specifically fine-tuned for design workflows, enabling it to better understand layouts, components, and broader design context compared to general-purpose AI tools.
The launch builds on Figma’s recent partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic, which integrated coding assistants such as Claude Code and Codex into the platform. Figma said the long-term goal is to further merge design and code workflows inside its ecosystem.
Chief Design Officer Loredana Crisan said the company sees AI reducing friction around repetitive production tasks while allowing teams to focus more heavily on creative direction, user experience decisions, and collaborative ideation.
The move comes amid intensifying competition across AI-powered creative software, with rivals including Adobe and Canva rapidly expanding their own generative AI capabilities.
Despite broader concerns that AI could disrupt creative professions, Figma continues to see strong business growth. The company reported first-quarter 2026 revenue of $333.4 million, up 46% year over year, suggesting rising demand for AI-enhanced design and collaboration tools.
