Anthropic has released the Anthropic Economic Index connector for Claude, giving users direct conversational access to the company’s dataset on how AI is being used across the economy. The connector is available now in claude.ai and requires no installation, working across all Claude models.
The Anthropic Economic Index tracks real-world Claude usage patterns across occupations, industries, and geographies. Previously accessible primarily to researchers, journalists, and policymakers through published datasets, the connector makes the same data available to anyone through natural language queries. Users can ask questions such as which occupations use AI most frequently, what tasks are being automated, how usage has shifted over the past year, or how Claude is being used within a specific region or profession.
To enable the connector, users open the connectors menu in claude.ai, locate the Anthropic Economic Index in the directory, and activate it. From there, queries can be made conversationally, with Claude able to surface underlying data behind any answer it provides.
Anthropic noted that the Index reflects patterns in Claude usage rather than the broader labor market, and said Claude will flag that distinction and point users to source data as part of any exploration. The full datasets remain freely available on Anthropic’s website for independent analysis.
The release is part of Anthropic’s broader effort to make AI’s economic impact more transparent and accessible beyond academic or policy audiences. As debate around AI’s effect on work continues to grow, the connector is intended to give individuals a direct way to explore how the technology is intersecting with their own field or occupation using verified usage data rather than projections or estimates.
