Amazon has removed an AI-generated video recap of its Fallout series on Prime Video after users reported multiple factual errors. The recaps, introduced in November as an experimental feature for select English-language Prime Originals in the U.S., summarize key plot points using AI-generated narration, dialogue, and music.
Viewers highlighted inaccuracies in the Fallout recap, including misdating a scene featuring The Ghoul as a “1950s flashback” when it actually takes place in 2077, and misrepresenting interactions between main characters The Ghoul and Lucy MacLean. Fans raised concerns that such errors could confuse new viewers ahead of the release of the next season on December 17.
The removal follows broader scrutiny of AI-generated summaries across the industry. In early 2025, Apple suspended an AI feature summarizing notifications after repeated mistakes, while Google’s AI Overviews have also been criticized for inaccuracies. Amazon said the video recaps were experimental and limited to select series, but the Fallout errors underscore challenges in deploying generative AI tools for accurate content summarization.
Meanwhile, Amazon also recently added several AI features to its products, including Ask this Book on Kindle iOS, which allows readers to ask contextual questions without leaving the page, and an Alexa Plus feature on Fire TV that lets users jump to specific movie scenes by describing them.
