Amazon introduced Ask this Book, a new AI-powered feature for U.S. users of the Kindle iOS app that allows readers to ask questions directly about the content they are reading. By highlighting a passage in an eligible Kindle book, users can request contextual explanations related to plot points, characters, or themes without leaving the page. The feature is designed to preserve immersion and only provides information up to the reader’s current position to avoid spoilers.
Ask this Book is currently available for thousands of English-language best-selling Kindle titles. Readers can access the tool through the in-book menu or by highlighting text and selecting suggested questions or entering their own. The feature supports follow-up questions, allowing readers to explore details in greater depth while continuing to read. Amazon said the tool will expand to Kindle devices and Android next year.
The launch follows Amazon’s recent rollout of Kindle Recaps, a feature that provides short summaries of previous books in a series. Recaps are available on Kindle devices and the Kindle iOS app in the U.S. and are designed to help readers quickly reorient themselves after long breaks between installments. Together, the updates reflect Amazon’s broader push to integrate AI into reading experiences while keeping content consumption uninterrupted.
Recently, Amazon also introduced an AI feature for Fire TV that lets Alexa Plus jump to specific movie scenes on Prime Video by describing them, further expanding AI functionality across its product ecosystem.
