Ryan Beiermeister, former vice president of product policy at OpenAI, was terminated in January following a sex discrimination allegation from a male colleague, the Wall Street Journal reported. Beiermeister denied the claim, stating the allegation was “absolutely false.”
Her termination occurred after she expressed concerns about a planned ChatGPT feature called “adult mode,” which would introduce erotica into the chatbot experience. OpenAI CEO of Applications Fidji Simo has said the feature is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2026. According to the report, Beiermeister and others raised questions about the potential impact of the feature on certain users.
OpenAI stated that Beiermeister “made valuable contributions during her time at OpenAI” and that her departure was unrelated to any concerns she raised. Beiermeister’s background includes four years on Meta’s product team and over seven years at Palantir.
