Google is introducing a new AI-powered wardrobe feature in Google Photos that automatically identifies and organizes clothing from users’ photo libraries. The feature creates a digital closet, allowing users to browse, filter, and manage outfits based on items they already own.
The system uses AI to detect apparel across images and categorize pieces such as tops, bottoms, and accessories. Users can explore their wardrobe by category, rediscover items, and assemble outfits digitally. The feature also supports creating moodboards for different occasions, such as travel or events, which can be saved or shared.
A key component is a virtual try-on capability that previews how selected combinations might look before being worn. This adds a layer of personalization, positioning the tool as both an organizational system and a styling assistant.
The feature is scheduled to roll out starting this summer, first on Android and later on iOS devices. It builds on Google’s broader efforts to embed AI into everyday consumer applications, moving beyond search and productivity into lifestyle use cases.
By turning personal photo libraries into structured data, the wardrobe feature reflects a growing trend in AI-driven personalization, where software anticipates user needs and simplifies routine decisions such as outfit planning.
