Google is expanding its AI-powered Fitbit platform by enabling users to integrate medical records into its health coaching system. Starting next month in preview, U.S. users will be able to link data such as lab results, medications, and medical history to receive more personalized wellness insights.

The update allows Fitbit’s AI coach to combine clinical records with wearable data, offering tailored guidance such as interpreting lab trends or suggesting lifestyle adjustments. Google said users will retain control over their data and emphasized that medical information will not be used for advertising. The system is positioned as a wellness tool rather than a diagnostic solution.

The move aligns with a broader push across the tech industry to integrate AI into healthcare. OpenAI recently introduced ChatGPT Health, a platform designed to securely incorporate personal health data into AI-driven guidance. Amazon has launched Health AI for Prime users, offering assistance with medical records, prescriptions, and access to virtual care. Microsoft has also rolled out Copilot Health, which analyzes medical and wearable data to deliver personalized insights.

As adoption grows, regulators are increasingly scrutinizing how companies manage sensitive health data and define the boundaries of AI-driven medical support.
