Etsy has launched a beta version of its app within ChatGPT, allowing users to search and compare products through conversational prompts. The integration marks a further step in Etsy’s strategy to position itself within emerging AI-driven discovery channels where consumers are increasingly starting their shopping journeys.
The feature enables users to tag “@Etsy” and describe what they are looking for, such as a personalized gift or home decor item. The system then returns relevant listings pulled directly from Etsy’s marketplace, which users can browse, compare, and click through to purchase on Etsy’s platform. The approach focuses on capturing intent through natural language rather than traditional keyword-based search.
Etsy has been an early participant in AI commerce integrations, previously partnering with ChatGPT for Instant Checkout. The company says that experience showed strong demand for conversational discovery, with users often transitioning from chat interfaces to Etsy for deeper exploration before completing purchases.
The launch also provides Etsy with insight into how shoppers interact with AI tools during the discovery phase. This data could inform improvements to its own on-platform search and personalization features, including ongoing tests of conversational search within Etsy itself.
The move reflects a broader shift in ecommerce, where AI is redefining how users find products, emphasizing context and intent over structured catalogs and traditional search queries.
