Wikipedia marked its 25th anniversary on January 15 by highlighting the growing role of Wikimedia Enterprise, its commercial data platform for large-scale content reuse. The Wikimedia Foundation announced new Enterprise partners, including Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Mistral AI, and Perplexity, joining existing users such as Google and Ecosia.

Wikimedia Enterprise provides structured access to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects through high-throughput APIs designed for search engines, generative AI systems, and digital assistants. Offerings include on-demand article access, hourly dataset snapshots, and real-time update streams. The service is positioned as a way for technology companies to integrate human-governed knowledge while supporting Wikipedia’s sustainability.

Wikipedia remains one of the most widely used global knowledge sources, serving more than 65 million articles across over 300 languages and generating billions of monthly views. Its content is widely used in training large language models and powering AI-driven products. Wikimedia Enterprise is intended to formalize those relationships as demand grows for reliable, transparent, and curated data in AI development.
