Anthropic has announced the opening of a new office in Milan, strengthening its presence in Europe and expanding support for Italian companies, developers, researchers, and public institutions adopting AI technologies.
The Milan location becomes Anthropic’s sixth European office, joining existing operations in London, Dublin, Paris, Zurich, and Munich.
Led by Thomas Remy, Head of Southern Europe, the local team will focus on helping organizations build and scale AI applications using Claude while promoting responsible AI adoption across industries.
Anthropic said it is already working with major Italian enterprises including Generali Group, Unipol Group, Angelini Pharma, Bracco Group, Enel Group, and Pirelli.
The company also highlighted growing adoption among technology firms and startups. Satispay reportedly used Claude to accelerate development timelines, while Bending Spoons said a majority of code changes are now co-authored using Claude Code.
Anthropic’s expansion follows increasing engagement with Italy’s design and creative sectors, including partnerships during Milan Design Week to demonstrate AI-assisted workflows for industrial and spatial designers.
The announcement comes shortly after the publication of Magnifica Humanitas, the first AI-focused encyclical from Pope Leo XIV. Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah participated in the Vatican presentation, discussing the ethical implications of advanced AI and the importance of involving governments, academics, civil society, and cultural institutions in shaping the technology’s future.
Anthropic said its Milan office will not only support AI deployment across Italian industry but also contribute to broader discussions around AI’s impact on work, creativity, education, and human agency as adoption of frontier AI systems continues to accelerate across Europe. The expansion comes amid a period of rapid growth for the company: the release of Claude Opus 4.8, which introduced performance improvements, stronger reliability, and enhanced developer controls, as well as a $65 billion Series H funding round that valued Anthropic at $965 billion, surpassing OpenAI to become Silicon Valley’s most valuable AI company.
