Anthropic experienced widespread service disruptions on Monday, affecting thousands of users of Claude.ai and Claude Code. Most users reported login and logout errors, while the company said the Claude API continued to function normally.

The cause of the outage has not been publicly detailed, though Anthropic confirmed it has identified an issue and is implementing a fix. The spike in usage follows increased attention on the platform, as Claude recently climbed to the top of the App Store charts, surpassing its rival OpenAI ChatGPT.

The service disruptions occur amid heightened scrutiny of Anthropic’s federal contracts. Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump instructed agencies to stop using Anthropic products over disputes regarding safeguards preventing AI use for mass domestic surveillance or autonomous weapons. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has indicated the company could be designated a supply-chain risk, though Anthropic has not received formal notice.
