Zoom Communications launched AI Companion 3.0, the next iteration of its agentic AI solution designed to optimize workflows across meetings, documents, and personal tasks. The update introduces new AI-first features in beta for personal workflows, agentic AI tools for Zoom Docs, and a web interface providing extended context to help users uncover insights and manage work efficiently.
AI Companion 3.0 leverages Zoom’s federated AI approach, integrating its own large and small language models with third-party models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source options like NVIDIA Nemotron. The federated system enables higher-quality results through more accurate transcription, closed captions, and translations, improving information retrieval and task completion for users.
Velchamy Sankarlingam, Zoom’s president of Product and Engineering, described the release as part of the company’s transition from a meeting platform to an AI-first work orchestration solution. The product is available as a standalone $10-per-month option or integrated into paid Zoom plans.
Enhanced Productivity and Collaboration Features
AI Companion 3.0 introduces a conversational web interface that converts meeting discussions, notes, and documents into actionable insights. Key features include:
- Agentic Retrieval: Searches across Zoom Workplace, meeting transcripts, and connected apps like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, with Gmail and Outlook coming soon.
- Post-Meeting Follow-Up: Generates tasks and drafts emails from meeting outcomes.
- Daily Reflection Reports: Summarizes meetings and tasks to prioritize work.
- Agentic Writing Mode: Drafts and refines documents using AI alongside the user in a canvas interface.
- Seamless Export & Collaboration: Supports MD, PDF, Microsoft Word, and Zoom Docs formats with shared editing, commenting, and version history.
- AI Brainstorming & Research: Helps initiate projects and analyze multiple documents for actionable insights.
The update also adds workflow automation with features such as My Notes for transcribing meetings across platforms and personal workflow automation for daily reflections and team chat highlights.
Commitment to Privacy and Security
Zoom emphasizes security and responsible AI use. Customer data is encrypted in transit and at rest, including interactions with third-party AI models. Zoom does not use communications content to train internal or external AI models.
Early feedback highlights the productivity impact across enterprises. Christine Sarros of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure noted that AI Companion helps teams convert conversations into actionable insights, while NVIDIA highlighted the role of Nemotron models in enabling advanced reasoning and retrieval-augmented generation within the federated AI stack.
With AI Companion 3.0, Zoom aims to extend beyond meetings into intelligent work orchestration, offering context-aware, agentic AI capabilities to streamline collaboration, decision-making, and task management across organizations.
