Anthropic Commits $30B to Azure in Major AI Pact with Microsoft and Nvidia
Anthropic is committing $30 billion in Azure compute as part of a major new partnership with Microsoft and Nvidia, expanding Claude and deepening collaboration on AI infrastructure.
Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Anthropic have announced a sweeping multi-year partnership that reshapes the global AI landscape, anchoring more than $45 billion in combined investments while cementing Azure as a core infrastructure provider for Anthropic’s expanding Claude model family.
At the center of the agreement is Anthropic’s historic commitment to purchase $30 billion in Azure compute capacity, along with contractual options to scale access to 1 gigawatt of total compute. The compute will be powered by NVIDIA’s most advanced architectures, including Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems, making it one of the largest AI infrastructure allocations ever secured by a single company.
The announcement marks the first deep technology partnership between NVIDIA and Anthropic, signaling a shift in how frontier AI companies and chipmakers collaborate. The two companies will jointly work on model-design optimization, GPU-architecture tuning, and end-to-end efficiency improvements. NVIDIA will tailor future architectures to Anthropic’s workloads, while Anthropic will refine Claude models to run at peak performance on NVIDIA’s systems.
On the cloud side, Microsoft and Anthropic are significantly expanding their collaboration. Anthropic will scale its rapidly growing Claude models across Microsoft Azure, bringing Claude’s latest frontier models — Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and Claude Haiku 4.5 — to Azure enterprise customers. This makes Claude the only frontier LLM available across the three largest cloud platforms, broadening access for global businesses seeking multi-cloud AI strategies.
Azure users will also receive new Claude-specific capabilities through Azure AI Foundry, while Microsoft confirmed continuing integration of Claude across its Copilot ecosystem, including GitHub Copilot and Copilot Studio. The move further diversifies Microsoft’s AI portfolio, which now features models from Anthropic, Meta, Mistral, and its own in-house research.
To deepen the partnership, NVIDIA will invest up to $10 billion in Anthropic, while Microsoft will invest up to $5 billion, providing the startup with additional capital to expand its research, safety programs, and global deployments. The investment places Anthropic among the most heavily funded AI companies worldwide, behind only OpenAI.
During the joint announcement, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the strategic importance of the collaboration. “Scaling frontier AI requires massive, reliable compute,” Amodei said. Nadella highlighted the significance of giving enterprises more model choices, while Huang described the partnership as “a dream come true,” noting that this is the first time NVIDIA has entered such a deep co-engineering relationship with Anthropic.
Industry analysts see the partnership as transformative. It creates a three-way strategic triangle linking the world’s largest cloud provider, the dominant AI chipmaker, and one of the leading frontier-model labs. For Anthropic, the deal provides scale, stability, and the architectural support needed to build Claude’s next generation. For Microsoft, it marks a broader evolution away from heavy reliance on OpenAI. For NVIDIA, it cements yet another anchor customer as global AI demand continues to soar.
