Security technology startup Verkada has raised $100 million in a funding round led by CapitalG, Alphabet’s venture capital arm, bringing its valuation to $5.8 billion. CEO Filip Kaliszan told CNBC that Google saw opportunities to apply AI across Verkada’s physical security offerings, including cameras, alarms, and sensors integrated under a single cloud-based platform.
The investment is intended to strengthen Verkada’s AI capabilities and provide liquidity. The funding follows a $1.3 billion valuation increase from the company’s Series E round in February. Verkada serves more than 30,000 customers globally across sectors such as retail, government, education, and transportation. Notably, TeraWatt Infrastructure, which supports Google’s Waymo charging sites, uses Verkada technology to secure EV facilities.
In September, the company launched over 60 AI-powered platform updates, including the “AI-Powered Unified Timeline” tool. The funding and product expansion reflect a broader trend of AI-enhanced physical security solutions. For instance, Leonardo recently deployed AI-driven systems to monitor and counter Russian drone activity, highlighting the growing importance of AI in both enterprise and national security contexts.
