Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, outlined a ₹10 trillion, or about $110 billion, investment to develop artificial intelligence infrastructure in India over the next seven years. Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Ambani said the funding will support gigawatt-scale data centers, a nationwide edge computing network, and AI services integrated with Reliance’s Jio telecom platform.

Construction has begun on multi-gigawatt facilities in Jamnagar, Gujarat, with more than 120 megawatts expected online in the second half of 2026. The expansion will be powered in part by Reliance’s 10 gigawatts of surplus renewable energy capacity.

The announcement follows similar commitments from the Adani Group and partnerships between OpenAI and Tata Group to expand AI capacity in India. Ambani said high compute costs remain a major constraint in AI development and positioned the buildout as central to India’s technological self-reliance.

Reliance plans to collaborate with enterprises, startups, and universities, while expanding AI tools in regional languages. Jio has also partnered with Google to distribute Gemini AI services to users nationwide.
