Meta has partnered with EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of Ray-Ban, on its smart glasses since launch. The companies reported selling more than 7 million AI-enabled glasses in 2025, up from 2 million the previous year, including Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta models. Prada and EssilorLuxottica recently renewed their eyewear licensing agreement, extending ties through at least 2030.
A Prada-branded device could position Meta within the high-fashion segment, expanding beyond its existing consumer base. However, AI glasses face scrutiny over privacy concerns, particularly around potential facial-recognition capabilities.
Competition is also intensifying, with Apple Inc. reportedly developing its own AI-powered wearables, including smart glasses, an AI pendant, and camera-enabled AirPods tied to the iPhone ecosystem, signaling a broader race to define the next generation of consumer AI hardware.
