First Voyage, a startup focused on AI wellness, raised $2.5 million in a seed funding round from a16z Speedrun, SignalFire, True Global, and other investors to expand its Momo Self Care app. The platform features an AI companion named Momo, a digital pet that reminds users to complete tasks and build healthy habits. Users earn coins for completing tasks, which can be spent on customizing Momo, and can also receive AI-guided habit recommendations based on their goals.
Co-founder and CEO Besart Çopa said the app has already seen more than 2 million tasks created by users, with popular habits spanning productivity, mindfulness, and spirituality. The app incorporates safety guardrails to ensure conversations remain appropriate and supportive.
The funding will support the Android launch and enhance Momo’s intelligence and interaction capabilities. Çopa emphasized that the app leverages AI, animation, and gamification to encourage positive routines and foster user engagement, aiming to create a consumer brand that improves users’ daily lives while standing out from the growing wave of AI apps and companions.
While the space is expanding rapidly, there is a growing dialogue around the potential risks of AI “companions,” as some experts worry they could unintentionally encourage negative behaviors or create dependency.
