ByteDance is hiring for dozens of positions in its U.S. artificial intelligence team, according to Bloomberg. The company is seeking talent for roles involving international data production for large language models and research to create human-like AI systems.

The hiring push comes amid ongoing scrutiny by the U.S. government over national security risks associated with ByteDance’s ownership of TikTok. The company recently announced plans to sell parts of its U.S. stake in TikTok to non-Chinese buyers, addressing concerns that the platform could be used to collect data on Americans or influence public opinion. ByteDance has denied these claims.

Beyond social media, ByteDance is expanding its AI presence. Its Doubao chatbot was the most downloaded AI service in China last year, and its Seedance tool has drawn attention in Hollywood for generating alternate endings and deepfake content featuring prominent actors. The U.S. hiring initiative underscores the company’s ambition to compete in the global AI market despite geopolitical and regulatory challenges.
