Airbnb has named Ahmad Al-Dahle, previously head of generative AI at Meta Platforms, as its new technology chief, CEO Brian Chesky announced. Al-Dahle succeeds Ari Balogh, who stepped down in December after over seven years at the company.
At Meta, Al-Dahle led the older GenAI unit and later became co-head of AI products following the mixed reception of Llama 4. He also worked 16 years at Apple in special projects and imaging and sensing technology groups.
Airbnb is increasingly focusing on AI to enhance its travel and e-commerce offerings. Recent platform updates include expanded services such as catering and personal training, direct messaging, and an upgraded AI chatbot. Chesky highlighted plans to develop AI-driven travel search and personalized concierge features.
Al-Dahle’s appointment reflects Airbnb’s strategy to integrate AI deeply into its platform while emphasizing human-centered technology. Chesky described him as someone who combines technical expertise with design focus and strategic engineering, aligning with the company’s goal to use AI to foster human connection.
