Figma and Google Cloud have strengthened their partnership through a new collaboration that embeds advanced generative AI models into Figma’s design platform. Under this integration, Figma will use Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash, Gemini 2.0, and Imagen 4 to improve image generation, reduce latency, and enhance the overall creative workflow.

With this upgrade, Figma users will gain access to new AI-powered features within the platform. These tools aim to cut image generation time by half while allowing designers to move seamlessly from brainstorming to high-quality visuals. Users can now generate, refine, and adjust creative assets directly inside Figma without switching between external tools.

“Our collaboration with Google Cloud brings powerful image generation and editing capabilities into Figma that help teams tap into their creativity without breaking their flow,” says Dylan Field, CEO of Figma. “We’re excited to unlock new ways for our customers to explore their ideas faster and push the boundaries of what’s possible for design and creative expression in Figma.”

Figma reports that its Make Image feature now performs significantly faster and handles complex projects more efficiently. Improved memory and contextual understanding also help the system interpret larger files, making it easier to manage intricate design projects at scale.

How the AI Integration Enhances Design Tools

The new AI integration is embedded directly into Figma’s design pipeline, making it part of the native experience rather than an optional plugin. Designers can now ask the AI to generate visual concepts, restyle components, or automate repetitive design work directly on the canvas.

By partnering with Google Cloud, Figma gains access to scalable compute power and advanced optimization that would otherwise require major independent investment. Google’s models continuously evolve, meaning new AI capabilities will automatically enhance Figma’s tools over time.

“Figma is at the forefront of the design technology space, and its tools are the choice for modern businesses who want to build and collaborate using advanced technologies,” says Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud. “With this collaboration, millions of users are now able to benefit from the combination of Google’s leading AI models, Google Cloud’s AI-optimized infrastructure, and Figma’s incredible tools to push the design market forward.”

The result is faster creative iteration, from layout design and concepting to final asset production. AI-assisted cleanup, refactoring, and adaptive design suggestions also make handoff to engineering teams more efficient.

Competitive Landscape, Gemini Enterprise, and What’s Next

By integrating Google’s AI technology, Figma is positioning itself more aggressively against competitors like Adobe, Canva, and other creative platforms relying on external AI add-ons. This partnership moves Figma closer to becoming an all-in-one environment for creation, design, and intelligent generation.

However, new capabilities also bring new challenges. Protecting user data, ensuring ownership rights, and preventing over-automation are critical. Both companies must maintain strict controls to ensure that AI-generated outputs remain consistent with user intent and brand standards.

The Figma partnership coincides with Google’s launch of Gemini Enterprise, a conversational AI platform built for business environments. The new system enables employees to interact directly with their company’s documents, data, and applications through natural language, while developers can build, deploy, or customize AI agents within the same unified workspace.

Along with its collaboration with Figma, Google also revealed new AI partnerships with GAP, Gordon Foods, Klarna, Macquarie Bank, Melexis, Mercedes, Signal Iduna, Valiuz, and Virgin Voyages. These organizations join an expanding list of Gemini adopters that already includes Banco BV, Behr, Box, DBS Bank, Deloitte, Deutsche Telekom, FairPrice Group, the U.S. Department of Energy, and several others.
