YouTube announced that creators will soon be able to produce Shorts using their own likeness, alongside other AI-driven features, including game creation from text prompts and music experimentation. The platform said AI will act as a tool for expression, not a replacement for creators.

Shorts, which averages 200 billion daily views, is a core focus for YouTube. Current AI tools for Shorts include AI-generated clips, stickers, and auto-dubbing. The company will also provide creators with controls to manage the use of their likeness in AI-generated content.

Last October, YouTube introduced likeness-detection technology to identify AI-generated videos using a creator’s face or voice. Creators can request the removal of unauthorized content. These steps aim to reduce low-quality AI content while maintaining a high-quality viewing experience.

YouTube plans to expand Shorts further with new formats, including image posts similar to those popular on TikTok and Instagram Reels, reinforcing the platform’s commitment to evolving AI tools for creators.
