Uber is accelerating its ambitions in the travel industry with a new initiative tied to its Uber AI Solutions division. The company has begun recruiting experienced travel agents, destination planners and logistics experts to help train generative AI models for external corporate clients — a clear move toward building smarter, enterprise-grade trip-planning tools.
The three-month freelance project seeks professional-level expertise rather than hobbyist travel knowledge, indicating Uber’s focus on realistic industry workflows. While the listing sparked speculation about an Uber-built AI travel assistant for consumers, the company says the work supports a client project instead of an internal launch — at least for now.
The strategy builds on Uber’s growing role as travel infrastructure. This year, Uber partnered with Riyadh Air to integrate mobility features directly into the airline’s app and continued expanding airport operations globally, signaling deeper involvement in the traveler journey.
At the same time, the company’s data-analytics business is scaling rapidly. Uber Intelligence, a new privacy-protected marketing platform, helps travel brands analyze real-world mobility and spending patterns, positioning Uber as a key data provider for the sector.
And in another expansion of autonomous logistics, Uber plans to launch Starship robot deliveries in Leeds and Sheffield this December, with wider rollout expected across Europe and the U.S., underscoring how the platform is evolving beyond ride-hailing into a broader travel and mobility infrastructure provider.
