Spotify announced that its AI-powered Prompted Playlists feature is now available to Premium users in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and Sweden. The tool, previously tested in New Zealand and launched in the U.S. and Canada, allows users to create custom playlists by describing moods, themes, or inspirations in their own words.
Spotify’s AI generates playlists based on the user’s prompt, listening history, current trends, and cultural context. Each track includes a short explanation of why it was selected. Users can refine their playlists, request updates, or schedule automatic refreshes daily or weekly. The feature is currently in beta, with usage limits of roughly 20–30 prompts per user.
The rollout is part of a broader expansion of AI features across Spotify’s platform, including Page Match for audiobooks, About This Song, and enhanced global lyric translations with offline access. The company has integrated AI into internal workflows, with co-CEO Gustav Söderström noting that top developers have largely shifted to AI-assisted coding. Spotify is also entering physical book sales in the U.S. and U.K., complementing its growing audiobook offerings.
