Following months of testing, Norway-based Opera has released its AI-powered browser, Neon, to the public for $19.90 per month. Neon was first unveiled in May and made available in early access to select users in October.

The browser integrates an AI assistant directly into its interface, allowing users to ask questions, generate mini apps and videos, and automate tasks using browsing history for context. Neon also supports “Cards” for repeatable prompts and a deep research agent for detailed analysis on any topic. Its new tab organization feature, Tasks, creates contained workspaces of AI chats and tabs, combining aspects of Tab Groups and Arc Browser’s Spaces. Subscribers gain access to top AI models including Gemini 3 Pro, GPT-5.1, Veo 3.1, and Nano Banana Pro, as well as Opera’s developer community on Discord.

Krystian Kolondra, Opera EVP of browsers, emphasized that Neon is designed for early adopters seeking cutting-edge AI functionality, noting weekly updates shaped by the Founders community. Opera’s other products, like Opera One, GX, and Air, continue offering free AI chat features, while competitors such as Google and Brave are expanding agentic browsing capabilities with isolated environments and enhanced security protections. Neon joins other AI-first browsers, including Perplexity’s Comet, OpenAI’s Atlas, and The Browser Company’s Dia, in redefining how users interact with AI while navigating the web.

Other recent developments include Mozilla’s AI Window for Firefox, Snap’s Perplexity-powered AI search in Snapchat, and Google testing an integrated AI Mode in Search, reflecting the rapid expansion of AI in consumer browsing and search experiences.
