Nvidia, Amazon, and Microsoft are in discussions to invest up to $60 billion in OpenAI, according to a report by The Information. The talks involve both new and existing backers as OpenAI seeks additional capital to support the growing cost of developing and operating advanced AI models.

Nvidia, whose chips are widely used to train OpenAI’s models, is reportedly considering an investment of up to $30 billion. Microsoft, a long-standing partner and investor, is said to be in talks to invest less than $10 billion. Amazon, which would be a new investor, is discussing a significantly larger commitment, potentially exceeding $20 billion.

The report said OpenAI is close to receiving term sheets from the companies. Amazon’s potential investment may depend on broader commercial negotiations, including expanded cloud infrastructure agreements and the distribution of OpenAI products such as enterprise ChatGPT subscriptions.

The talks follow separate reports that SoftBank is considering an additional investment of up to $30 billion in addition to $40 billion investment it has reportedly completed. OpenAI is facing mounting pressure from increasing compute costs and intensifying competition from rivals, including Google, as demand for large-scale AI models accelerates.
