Google Maps is introducing live lane guidance to the Google-powered Polestar 4, using the EV’s front-facing camera to identify lane markings and road signs and deliver real-time merge instructions. The new feature combines camera input with Google Maps’ AI to give drivers visual and voice guidance on when to shift lanes – particularly when approaching exits or complex interchanges.
Google says drivers will be able to glance at their dash display to see recommended lanes in the moment, reducing stress and preventing missed turns. The feature builds on Google’s deep integration within Polestar vehicles, which also includes Google Chrome and high-definition maps through Android Automotive OS.
“Live lane guidance continues the path of Polestar’s driver centric UX strategy, reducing driver stress and improving safety,” said Sid Odedra, Polestar’s head of UX/UI.
The feature is launching first for Polestar 4 vehicles in the U.S. and Sweden, with plans to expand availability to more countries and additional vehicle models as Google partners with more automakers.
