Amazon is rolling out a new AI-powered feature called Video Recaps on Prime Video, expanding its use of generative tools across the streaming platform. The feature creates short, edited video summaries that pair narration, dialogue, and music to help viewers revisit previous seasons. The beta launch covers select Prime Video originals, including “Fallout,” “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” and “Upload.”
Video Recaps build on Prime Video’s earlier AI tool, X-Ray Recaps, which produces text-based summaries for episodes or full seasons. The new version moves beyond static text by generating stitched video segments that resemble traditional highlight reels. Amazon says guardrails remain in place to reduce the risk of unintended spoilers.
Competitors are also using generative AI to enhance viewing. YouTube TV applies AI to surface key moments in sports broadcasts, while Netflix is integrating generative tools into production workflows, using them for visual effects, de-aging processes, and pre-production design. The growing adoption reflects broader industry efforts to streamline content creation and viewer engagement, even as debates continue over how AI may affect creative labor.
