Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (NASDAQ: TTWO), said artificial intelligence is still far from capable of creating the next Grand Theft Auto. Speaking at CNBC’s Technology Executive Council Summit in New York, Zelnick noted that while AI holds promise, its creative impact on gaming remains limited.

He cited intellectual property challenges and the “backward-looking” nature of AI systems that rely on historical data, saying such tools struggle to produce truly original content. “There is no creativity that can exist by definition in any AI model, because it is data-driven,” he said.

Zelnick argued that storytelling and world-building in franchises like Grand Theft Auto depend on human ingenuity rather than predictive computation. Despite AI’s value in automating tasks, he emphasized that genuine creativity – the foundation of Take-Two’s success – remains uniquely human.
