Symbolic.ai, a startup focused on AI tools for journalism, has signed a deal with Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp to integrate its platform into Dow Jones Newswires. The agreement marks one of the more concrete deployments of AI technology in a large newsroom environment, moving beyond pilot projects and internal testing.
Founded by former eBay chief executive Devin Wenig and Ars Technica co-founder Jon Stokes, Symbolic.ai develops tools designed to support editorial workflows. The platform offers features such as research assistance, newsletter creation, audio transcription, fact-checking support, headline optimization, and SEO guidance. The company says its technology can significantly reduce time spent on complex research tasks.
News Corp owns major media brands including The Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, and the New York Post. The company has steadily expanded its engagement with AI providers. In 2024, News Corp signed a multi-year licensing agreement with OpenAI and later indicated it was open to partnerships with additional AI firms.
The Symbolic.ai deal reflects a broader effort by large publishers to operationalize AI tools while maintaining editorial control and production standards.
