Spotify has expanded its Prompted Playlist feature to include podcasts, marking a step toward unifying music and spoken audio discovery on its platform. The feature, launched earlier this year in beta, allows users to generate playlists using natural language prompts based on listening habits and real-time trends. The update is rolling out in English to Premium users across the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden.

The addition of podcasts enables users to create curated listening experiences that combine both music and spoken-word content. Listeners can generate playlists around specific themes such as science, pop culture, or true crime, and refine prompts over time. Spotify said playlists can be set to update daily or weekly, with each recommended episode accompanied by a short explanation of why it was included.

The company is positioning the feature as a discovery tool for both users and creators. According to Spotify, more than 34 million podcasts are discovered for the first time each week on its platform. By integrating podcasts into Prompted Playlist, the company aims to surface both new and back-catalog episodes based on user intent signals.

The update reflects Spotify’s broader strategy to deepen engagement beyond music streaming, as competition intensifies in podcasting and personalized audio. The feature remains in beta, with usage limits and functionality expected to evolve based on user feedback.
