Siemens is preparing a significant internal restructuring aimed at breaking down organizational silos and strengthening integration across its software, infrastructure, and industrial operations. The move aligns with CEO Roland Busch’s “One Tech Company” strategy, which emphasizes combining digital technologies with core industrial capabilities.

As per the Reuters report, the reorganization is expected to split the company’s Digital Industries and Smart Infrastructure divisions into six or seven smaller business units. These units would report directly to the executive board, streamlining decision-making and enabling closer coordination across product areas.

Digital Industries currently focuses on factory automation, motion control, and process automation, while Smart Infrastructure oversees building technologies and energy management systems. The restructuring is intended to better connect these domains with software and artificial intelligence capabilities, reflecting growing demand for integrated, data-driven industrial solutions.

The plan remains under review and is expected to be discussed with supervisory board members and employee representatives in the coming months. Details on leadership changes and operational structure are still being finalized.

Siemens’ mobility division, which includes rail technology, is not expected to be affected by the restructuring.

The initiative highlights a broader trend among industrial companies to embed AI into core operations, as automation, energy systems, and digital platforms increasingly converge. By reorganizing around smaller, more integrated units, Siemens aims to accelerate innovation and improve its ability to deliver end-to-end technology solutions in an AI-driven industrial landscape, mirroring wider industry shifts such as Meta Platforms scaling back VR-focused initiatives in favor of artificial intelligence investments.
