Elon Musk announced a new artificial intelligence project called Macrohard, developed jointly by Tesla and xAI. The system combines xAI’s Grok large language model with a Tesla-built AI agent capable of interpreting computer screen video and executing keyboard and mouse actions in real time.

Musk described the platform as a system designed to emulate the functions of software companies by automating digital workflows. Grok serves as the high-level “navigator,” while Tesla’s agent handles operational execution on a computer interface. The system runs on Tesla’s in-house AI4 chip alongside Nvidia-based server hardware to support large-scale AI processing.

The announcement follows growing interest in agentic AI systems that can autonomously perform computer-based tasks. Tools such as Anthropic’s Claude Cowork have highlighted how AI agents could reshape software productivity and potentially disrupt traditional enterprise software models.

The project also reflects closer ties between Tesla and xAI after Tesla agreed earlier this year to invest roughly $2 billion in the AI startup. Meanwhile, SpaceX recently acquired xAI in an all-stock deal valuing the company at $250 billion, ahead of a potential SpaceX initial public offering later this year.
