Mozilla is developing AI Window, a new AI-powered browsing feature for its Firefox browser. The tool will include an AI assistant and chatbot and is described as an opt-in, user-controlled space built with feedback from early participants. AI Window will operate alongside Firefox’s existing private and classic windows, giving users three distinct browsing experiences.
The feature aims to provide AI assistance without confining users to a conversational loop, instead guiding them outward to the broader web. Users will be able to select their preferred AI model, though Mozilla has not disclosed additional technical details. Interested users can join a waitlist for updates on AI Window.
The announcement follows Firefox’s September rollout of the “shake to summarize” tool, which generates AI-powered summaries of webpages on iOS devices. Mozilla emphasizes that its approach prioritizes user choice and privacy, positioning AI Window as a companion that enhances browsing while maintaining user control over AI interactions.
