Meta has released a v21 software update for its AI-powered smart glasses, adding new audio and multimodal capabilities aimed at improving everyday usability. The update is rolling out during the holiday season and is available to users enrolled in Meta’s Early Access Program.

One of the key additions is Conversation Focus, a feature first announced at Meta Connect earlier this year. The tool amplifies the voice of a conversation partner in noisy environments such as restaurants, public transit, or events. Using the glasses’ open-ear speakers, the feature boosts speech volume relative to background noise. Users can adjust amplification levels through touch controls on the glasses or via device settings. Conversation Focus is currently available in the U.S. and Canada for Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN models.

The update also introduces a new multimodal music experience developed in partnership with Spotify. By combining computer vision with Meta AI, users can request music that matches what they are viewing, such as an album cover or a scene. The feature generates personalized playlists based on visual input and listening preferences. It is available in select countries and supports English-language voice commands.

Meanwhile, earlier this month Google has revealed new Galaxy XR updates, adding PC Connect, Travel Mode, and Likeness features, while also previewing future AI-powered and wired XR glasses as part of its expanding Android XR ecosystem.
