Google is integrating its Gemini-powered Deep Research AI into NotebookLM, its experimental research notebook tool, making the feature available to all users within a week. The integration allows NotebookLM users to ask questions and select a fast or deep research style. The fast mode quickly gathers information, while the deep mode performs in-depth analysis, generating high-quality sources and a research plan before beginning. Users can also add additional sources as the report is created in the background, with final outputs including citations to articles, websites, and papers.
The update builds on Deep Research’s existing integration with Google Workspace, including Gmail, Drive, and Chat, enabling the AI to draw context from emails, files, and chats.
NotebookLM is also expanding support for new file types. Users can now link Google Sheets to query statistics, add Drive PDFs via URL, and upload Microsoft Word (.docx) files. Google says these updates aim to streamline research workflows, letting users assemble comprehensive knowledge bases without leaving NotebookLM.
