DoorDash has launched Tasks, a new platform that allows Dashers to complete short activities beyond deliveries while helping businesses and AI systems gather real-world data. The initiative reflects growing demand for ground-level insights and training data for AI and automation.
Tasks include activities such as photographing store shelves, documenting business locations, and capturing real-world scenarios to support logistics and operational accuracy. DoorDash said Dashers have already completed more than 2 million tasks since 2024.
The company is also piloting a standalone app where Dashers can contribute data for AI and robotics systems. These assignments include recording videos or speech samples, helping train models to better understand physical environments. Compensation is set based on task complexity and effort.
DoorDash is partnering with companies across sectors including retail, insurance, hospitality, and technology. The platform leverages its network of over 8 million Dashers to scale data collection across the U.S.
The move highlights how gig economy platforms are increasingly positioning themselves as infrastructure providers for AI development and real-world data acquisition.
